Anxiety
Depression
Relational issues and breakdown
Bereavement and Loss
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Intrusive Thinking
Trauma
Anger
Self Harm
Disordered Eating
Substance Abuse and Addictions
Domestic Abuse
Sexual Abuse
Coping with periods of depression, anxiety and stress are part of the human condition. We can all find ourselves struggling with life events, with our relationships and our own overwhelming thoughts and emotions. Mostly we manage to navigate our way through with the support we have around us, but sometimes we cannot share with friends and family the issues that are troubling us. Sometimes it is a professional listening ear that we need, someone with whom we feel safe to talk about things that are difficult and uncomfortable for us.
My job is to help uncover repeating patterns of behaviour that are no longer serving us. I aim to shed light on the areas that keep us stuck, often areas that are buried deep down, hidden from our immediate awareness. My role as therapist is to help you find clarity and perspective so you can foster healthy relationships and better manage your internal world. In time you will gain your own insights that will enable you to feel more in control, more able to trust in your own strengths and internal resources, allowing you to make the changes needed to improve your life and well-being.
Therapy is a rewarding personal experience between people. It requires commitment and effort on both sides. At times it can be challenging as it involves exploring parts of ourselves we might prefer to avoid or feel are unacceptable. If we are willing to take the risk, within the safety of the therapeutic space, counselling rewards us with a deeper understanding of ourselves and enriches our lives with more awareness and meaning. It can be hard but there are often times of laughter, surprise and lightbulb moments of revelation!
Consultation and Sessions
First we schedule a free consultation session wherein we can explore your expectations for counselling, and you can get a feel for how I work. Sometimes it may be necessary to have a further consultation session to ensure that I am the right therapist to meet your needs. This session would be charged for.
Should you choose to continue, I will offer you a weekly one-to-one 50-minute session with regular reviews and space for reflection and feedback. If - at any time - we feel that I am not the right practitioner for you I will always seek to get you a referral.
